Mini Music Makers >What? |
|
Mini Music Makers workshops are weekly music making sessions for young children and their parents/carers. Quality programmes especially prepared for each age group (babies, toddlers, 2-3, pre-school) are delivered by qualified and experienced music teachers. The sessions take place during term-time in and around Stamford. Small groups of 10 allow the children to become confident and interactive participants.

Children delight in musical involvement. This natural response to music can be enhanced and stimulated by developing an exciting programme of music based activities. As well as encouraging enjoyment of music, through musical play, children can develop or improve concentration, physical co-ordination, self awareness and language skills.
Interacting with other children through the creative activities of singing, movement and instrument playing helps build self-confidence, independence and cultural awareness. |

The Mini Music Makers programmes were developed by Julie Digby, a fully qualified and very experienced music teacher. Following the birth of her daughter, she became even more aware of the value of musical stimulation for babies. An appreciation of those special moments together inspired her to offer parents and their children the opportunity to make music and at the same time, hopefully, initiate a life long love of music making. The response
to Mini Music Makers has been overwhelming. The classes
are constantly oversubscribed and so new teachers are leading groups and
we have begun an outreach programme, starting in Bourne. |

The emphasis is on having fun. The children do not realise that they are learning at the same time. They are introduced to the musical concepts of beat, rhythm, pitch, tempo and dynamics, through the activities of listening, playing, improvising and movement. The music teacher leads the whole session vocally and she also plays the guitar and/or keyboard. Age related
programmes are prepared, based on a theme e.g. Each theme is visually enriched by a variety of props, toys and puppets. The children have the opportunity to play and explore the sounds of a wide range of quality musical instruments in each session. These are arranged in collections e.g. recycled, drums, metal, chime bars etc. |
